Painted Zipp
I finished applying all the layers of paint, sparkles, and clearcoat to the Zipp 2001 frame a couple months ago, and finally worked up the motivation to sand and polish the clearcoat. I did 2 coats of dark grey base coat, 2 coats of the Keirin flake topcoat, and probably 5+ coats of the clear topcoat so I’d have enough meat to sand down the high spots and polish without hitting the sparkles below. I wet sanded with 1000 grit paper on an orbital sander, and followed that up with this correction compound and polish, buffed on with a microfiber cloth. This is the first time I’ve ever done a high-gloss paint job like this, and I think it turned out pretty well.

Before painting I bonded on a hose tie-down point to the underside of the chainstay, for the hose to the rear brake caliper:

The pivot bushings for the seat mast were damaged, so I turned some new ones out of PEEK:

It’s almost ready to build up!
